Espresso Macchiato tek shut veya sert kahve sevenler için iki shut espresso üzerine az miktarda süt eklenmesiyle yapılan bir kahve türüdür. Geleneksel İtalyan lezzetleri arasında bulunan macchiato İtalyancada ‘’lekeli’’ anlamına gelmektedir. İtalyan baristaları tarafından kahvenin üzerine damlatılan süt, aslında espresso macchiatoyu benzer machiatolardan ayırmak için kullanılan bir yöntem olarak geleneksel hale gelmiştir. Günümüzde en fazla tüketilen türü ise caramel macchiatodur. Espresso, vanilyalı şurup, bol köpüklü süt ve üzerine karamel eklenerek yapılmaktadır.
Espresso Macchiato yapılış bakımından Caramel macchiatoya göre daha kolaydır. İçeriğinde 44ml. Espresso ve buharda pişirilerek köpürtülmüş 44 ml süt bulunmaktadır. Caramel macchiato ise farklı lezzetlerle harmanlanan efsane bir lezzete sahiptir. Yumuşak bir içime sahip olması ve farklı tatlar barındırmasıyla her yaştan kahve müptelasını cezbeden bir içecektir. Buharda ısıtılan 236 ml süt, 59 ml espresso, 14,7 ml karamel ve vanilya şurubuyla sunuma hazır hele getirilen caramel macchiato, uzun cam bardaklarda servis edilir. Espresso macchiato ise daha küçük boyutlarda fincanlarla servis edilme geleneğine sahiptir. Başak bir gelenek ise, servis öncesi fincanların mutlaka ısıtılmış olması gereğidir.
